Association of British Insurers Scholarships for Postgraduate Study
INVITATION FOR APPLICATIONS - 1998
The Association of British Insurers is a trade body representing around 440 insurance companies, which between them account for over 95% of the business of UK insurance companies. The Association represents insurance companies to the Government and to regulatory and other agencies, and provides a wide range of services to its members. The Association awards three scholarships for postgraduate study annually.
Applications are invited from individuals who wish to commence study for an MA, MSc., MPhil or Ph.D. degree in October 1998. The scholarships are tenable at any establishment of higher education in the UK for a maximum of three years.
The research proposal or taught course to be followed must have some relevance to insurance. Recent topics have included: The Politics of the Life Assurance Industry in the Single Market Programme; Application of Risk Theory to Problems Involving Insurance Derivatives; Domestic Property Insurance Risks Associated with Brickearths Deposits of Southern Britain.
Applicants must have a good first degree. For applicants wishing to undertake a degree by research, a Master's degree may be an advantage and applicants must secure the support of a supervisor willing to supervise their research.
The value of the awards is based on ESRC rates. In 1996/97 the amounts were: in London £9,489 and elsewhere £8,000. These rates apply to overseas students and include maintenance and registration fees.
